Pot Luck Ceramics
Profit for Non-Profit
Retail: Terra Cotta Dinner and Kitchenware - Port Alberni Signature Ceramics
Pot Luck Ceramics is owned and operated by the Port Alberni Fundraising Co-op. Through sales of affordable and beautiful terracotta ceramics the Co-op sets out to make profit for non-profit programs and services that improve the quality of life in the Alberni Valley (BC). Pot Luck Ceramics is staffed with co-op members and volunteers who want to make a difference in life by changing the way of fundraising in their community. This way non-profit organizations can focus on their goals and mission to do what they do best, while Pot Luck Ceramics provides the funds for them through donation of their profit. The organization believes in the ethical values of social responsibility and caring for others.
The organization started in Port Alberni in 2011 and since then has been recognized as a leader in Social Responsibility. They've been nominated for the Prime Minister's Awards, have received other awards including the Chamber of Commerce Special Recognition Award in 2016. With a Mission Statement saying: "Profits go to quality of life services and programs delivered in the Alberni Valley" it's no wonder that people throughout the area are impressed with Pot Luck Ceramics. Let alone the fact that by making a purchase they are participating in that very mission statement and enjoying beautiful pottery at the same time. There are NO paid employees and in fact the 'Co-op' runs with 35 volunteers including the original founder - Ms. Helma Swinkels. Helma was born in Holland, has lived in Germany but calls Port Alberni home. She loves the Alberni Inlet where along with husband Rick they can often be found fishing and touring through the magnificent Broken Group Islands.
The Port Alberni Fundraising Co-op is known to be the first Community Service Co-op in Canada that operates a for profit business with the purpose to donate the profit towards Charity.
