Alberni Valley Bulldogs

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs play in the BCHL (British Columbia Hockey League) along with several other teams from throughout BC plus one from Washington State. The Dawgs as they are commonly referred to play an exciting brand of up-tempo hockey in a league where many players are scouted for future careers in the game. In fact, most players in the BCHL will go on to higher level hockey be it in College programs NCAA or at the professional levels including some who eventually find their way to the NHL.

The Dawgs play in front of boisterous fans in Port Alberni often numbering 1200 or more fans. In fact, Port Alberni with the smallest overall population in the leauge routinely places two 2 or 3 in game attendance.

The games are generally held on Friday, Saturday or Sunday and occasionly there will be mid-week games. Puck drop is typically 7pm (2pm on Sundays) making for a wonderful way to spend an evening with friends and other hockey fans. 

On July 18th, 2019 the BCHL board of governors granted unanimous approval for Keycorp Sports & Entertainment Ltd to acquire a majority share in the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

Joining Keycorp Sports and Entertainment are Ron Coutre of Victoria, Dennis See, Stefanie Weber and Tim Maclean all of Port Alberni.  The new group is joined by the Port Alberni Junior Hockey Society to round out the club’s ownership.

Keycorp Sports & Entertainment will be leadership in the group and will oversee all hockey and business operation decisons.
