Shop the Neigbourhood - 29 local businesses involved! | Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber of Commerce is pleased to join forces with more than 200 other Business Associations across Canada who are participating in the YP Shop the Neighbourhood Program. Designed as a fun and rewarding Shop Local Initiative the program runs during the high volume period surrounding the US Thanksgiving Day promotions. All of us are looking at ways to ensure that Canadian Retailers and for us, Port Alberni Retailers gain as much traction as possible with our shoppers. Also for us the timing is good as we could then start off our own 24 Days of Christmas Program (extended a bit) to also help motivate shoppers to spend locally.

There will be lots of promotion through the media well in advance of Nov 28th and if you sign up soon (no cost) you also stand a chance of winning a $1000.00 early registration bonus! So, why not?

Hollies Golf & RV Park - Trevor MacDonald

Hollies Golf & RV Park

The Hollies was built on its present site in 1965 by Jack Luckhurst of Port Alberni.
     Originally, Mr. Luckhurst operated a motel and driving range business just off River Road across from the Somass River near where "Luckhurst Road" is now located.
     In 1964, when the tragic Tsunami struck Port Alberni, Mr. Luckhursts motel and driving range were unfortunate victims of the swelling flood waters.
     A year later, Mr. Luckhurst acquired the current site from Trevor Goodall, which was a dairy farm on higher ground located peacefully at the base of Mount Arrowsmith on the then Old Nanaimo Road. In addition to the driving range, he also laid out a nine hole golf course which over the years has evolved into the existing layout.
